Payroll does not end when employees are paid
A complete workflow carries approved payroll into remittance records, accounting, employee access, final pay, ROE processes, year-end reporting, and retained evidence.

Start with responsibility, not a calculator
Canadian payroll work includes more than calculating net pay. Employers generally need to maintain employee and taxable-benefit information, calculate deductions and employer portions, hold required amounts appropriately, remit according to their assigned schedule, maintain records, prepare information returns, and handle interruptions of earnings. The customer remains responsible for accuracy and deadlines even when software or a service provider supports the process.
From pay period to remittance
An approved run should preserve gross earnings, taxable benefits, pensionable and insurable amounts, CPP or QPP where applicable, EI, income tax, other deductions, employer contributions, net pay, and accounting distribution. Remittance tracking should distinguish amounts calculated, amounts due, amounts submitted, references, adjustments, and unresolved differences.
Late changes create risk. A retroactive earning, reversed payment, final-pay adjustment, or corrected employee setup can affect cumulative values and liabilities. The system should retain the original run and authorized correction rather than silently recalculating history as if the first result never existed.
Year-end is a reconciliation exercise
T4 or other applicable information-slip values should reconcile with approved payroll runs, adjustments, remittances, and general-ledger balances. Reviewers need exception reports for missing identifiers, negative or unusual cumulative amounts, employees with incomplete setup, and differences between payroll liability accounts and remittance records.
ROE, final pay, leave, and time-off workflows also depend on dates and employment events. Simor ERP connects Employees, Payroll Runs, Remittances, Compliance, Final Pay, ROE, Year-End, My Pay, and accounting, while allowing jurisdictional settings and reports to be configured for the implementation.
Authoritative reference: the Canada Revenue Agency’s Employers’ Guide to payroll deductions and remittances and T4 filing guide. Current rules must be validated before production use.
Canadian employers may need to manage deductions, employer amounts, remittance schedules, Records of Employment, and year-end information. Requirements depend on jurisdiction, employer circumstances, employee status, and current rules. Software configuration must therefore be reviewed against authoritative guidance and the organization’s qualified payroll or accounting advice.
What Simor ERP brings together
Simor ERP Payroll covers employees, benefits, payroll runs, remittances, compliance-oriented records, final pay, ROE workflow, year-end activity, time off, leave policies, holiday calendars, reports, and payroll tax settings. My Pay gives the connected employee access to pay information and payslips; My Time Off supports balances and requests.
Approved payroll can connect to journal entries and the general ledger so payroll expense, liabilities, payments, and financial reports remain part of the accounting record.
Problems a connected workflow should prevent
- A payroll run changes after reports or remittance amounts are prepared.
- Employee deductions do not reconcile to payroll liabilities.
- Final pay, leave balance, or status changes are missed.
- Year-end totals disagree with the payroll runs behind them.
- Employees see another employee’s pay information.
- A statutory rule changes but the configuration has no effective date or review evidence.
Control points through the year
Before each run
Validate active employees, assignments, components, benefits, time, leave, effective dates, and exceptional changes.
After calculation
Review totals, unusual variance, net pay, deductions, employer amounts, accounting distribution, and approval before finalization.
Remittance and year-end
Reconcile accumulated liabilities to payments and official records. Retain source totals, review, corrections, and filing evidence according to applicable requirements.
Implementation and validation
Simor Soft can configure components, formulas, reports, employee portals, roles, accounting mappings, and workflow. Payroll calculations, jurisdictional settings, remittance outputs, ROE information, and year-end records must be validated by the customer’s qualified payroll or accounting personnel before production reliance, filing, or remittance.
Example: moving from an approved run to year-end review
A payroll run brings together employee assignments, earnings, benefits, deductions, taxable treatment, time off, and configured jurisdictional rules. Once reviewed and approved, its results should connect to employee pay information, remittance tracking, payroll liabilities, expense accounts, and the general ledger. Final pay and ROE-related workflows introduce additional dates and review responsibilities.
Year-end work is easier when cumulative values can be traced back to individual approved runs and adjustments. Reviewers need to identify discrepancies before producing or relying on statutory outputs. Changes to employee setup or payroll configuration should not silently rewrite historical results, and corrections should retain their reason, approver, and accounting effect.
Canadian payroll requirements and administrative guidance can change. Simor ERP can support configured calculations, records, reports, and workflow, but each implementation must be validated against current requirements by the customer's qualified payroll or accounting personnel before remittance, filing, or production reliance. That validation is part of responsible implementation, not an optional final check.
Payroll, remittance, and year-end test cases
Test employees with regular earnings, taxable benefits, time off, changed deductions, final pay, and an interruption of earnings. Run payroll, review exceptions, approve it, expose the payslip through My Pay, and confirm that liabilities and expenses reach the intended general-ledger accounts.
Record a remittance reference and compare cumulative payroll deductions, employer portions, payments, and remaining liabilities. Correct a prior run through an authorized adjustment and verify that the original values remain traceable. At year-end, reconcile employee totals, information-slip values, remittance history, and ledger balances before generating or relying on outputs.
Rules, thresholds, forms, and deadlines change. Acceptance evidence should identify the effective configuration date and the qualified payroll or accounting person who validated it. Testing software behaviour is necessary, but it does not transfer the employer’s responsibility for accurate deductions, remittances, records, and filings.
